Kent is our home base, and it shapes the way we build. Our crews start most mornings a short drive from East Hill, West Hill and the Kent Valley, which means we know how the soil changes from one side of Highway 167 to the other and how much water a backyard near Mill Creek can hold after a week of November rain.
The valley floor sits on old Green River silt. It is fertile but slow to drain, so lawns and beds on the flats often stay soggy well into spring. On those lots we plan grading first: we shape the yard so water moves away from the foundation, add drainage where it is needed, and only then lay patios or plant beds. Up on East Hill and around Panther Lake the story is different. Glacial till and clay sit close to the surface, slopes are common, and a good retaining wall is often what turns an unusable bank into a flat, usable yard.
Around Lake Meridian and Scenic Hill we see a lot of families who want to spend more time outside: a paver patio off the kitchen, a fire pit for cool evenings, a covered area so the grill still works in October. Those projects work best when they are designed together, so the patio, the steps down to the lawn and the lighting along the path feel like one yard instead of three separate jobs.
Kent homes also tend to have established trees and older plantings that deserve a second look before anything is torn out. We walk the property with you, point out what is healthy and worth keeping, and suggest Pacific Northwest natives and hardy shrubs that handle wet winters and dry Augusts without constant attention. For busy households we can pair a new layout with drip irrigation on a smart controller so the beds take care of themselves in summer.
