Auburn is just south of our Kent base along the Green and White River valleys, and our crews are there often. The city has two very different kinds of yards. On the valley floor, around Downtown Auburn and the neighborhoods near the Green River, lots are flat, the water table is high and the soil is river silt. Up on Lea Hill, West Hill and Lakeland Hills, homes are newer, slopes are steeper and the soil is compacted till left over from construction.
Those differences change the plan. In the valley our first question is drainage. A patio or lawn that looks fine in July can sit under standing water in January, so we grade carefully, add drain lines or dry creek beds where they make sense, and choose permeable pavers when a large paved area would otherwise shed water toward the house. On the hills the challenge is usually the opposite: water runs off too fast, topsoil is thin, and new plantings struggle unless the beds are properly amended and mulched.
Many Auburn homeowners we meet in newer subdivisions on Lea Hill and Lakeland Hills moved into a house with a builder-grade yard: a strip of sod, a few shrubs and a small concrete pad. We help turn that into a real outdoor space with a larger paver patio, a cedar or composite deck, a fire pit, low-voltage lighting and planting beds that give the yard structure and privacy.
We also pay attention to maintenance. If you do not want to spend weekends watering, we can install drip irrigation on a smart controller and choose plants that handle South King County summers without fuss. If you already have an older system that sprays the fence more than the lawn, we can tune or replace it.
